    Hey guys, while posting some STJ photos, I came across some pictures me and my friends took at MacRitchie after our training. When i saw the mesmerising sunset at MacRitchie after my training, the photographer in me knew instinctively that that is the time for me to exhibit my IMBA SKILLS...hehe..just kidding but since I have got no where to post these pictures, i have decided to post it here for all to appreciate the beautiful side of one of Singapore's finest reservoir , the place where Hwachong holds its annual X-Country...Actually, MacRitchie is quite a lovely place, where one can be one with the nature. Where else can you see monkeys answer its nature call in nature,(erm, the lil' monkey in our class uses the toilet!!!)and where else can you see squirrels running from trees to trees...Jealous of me now? Haha..

    The Sun (The title of my Work)

    Thats the Sun

    What a Sun

    Oh...The Sun

    There goes the sun

    Impressed? haha, hope everybody likes the Sun now..
    All the best for the people in 08S6D running for council..
    May the Sun be with you

    -Hui Jie(again...haha)

    Yay 6D rocks! Here's why we rock:D

    The school's gonna collapse without us holding the ceiling up!:D

    Photo fight! Background: Continues to hold the school's ceiling up(:

    Back when we still had our Snow White and her seven dwarves!

    Our class flag(:

    Who says guys cant draw? We've got lots of artistic talents in our class!

    Look. More of our proud art pieces(:

    Brainstorming of ideas for Total Defence Day performance.

    Back when we used to hang out at fishtank everyday. We play hard and mug hard too!

    *Gasp* where's the rest of yijing?!

    Our angel mortal box seems to be of no better condition this year.

    Yay! Our beloved CT doing his part for the nation!

    And spot the similarity! :D
    Though we're abit shy

    Dont mess with us

    cause we're a force to be reckoned with!
    BOO! SCARED NOW?!

    Eh... does this help? Anyway since you see the Voltage across 3ohm/2ohm in the parallel circuit = voltage across R effective[1.2ohm],
    means Kirchoff's Voltage law is shown because travelling from E -> I1 -> I2-> 3ohm -> 1ohm-> E will give 12 = I3[3ohm] + I1[1ohm]
    Therefore for any closed circuit [just draw 1 circle anyhow],
    The directed sum of the electrical potential differences around any closed circuit must be zero.

    can i ask a simple question?

    why is V s = V R1= V R2?

    ... I think... after some sudden inspiration [which i hope is correct]

    According to Kirchoff's 2nd law aka Kirchoff's voltage law:
    - The directed sum of the electrical potential differences around any closed circuit must be zero.

    So... Follow this route:
    Cell -> Is -> I1 -> R1 -> I1 -> Is -> Cell.
    This is one closed loop. So voltage across resistor = voltage across cell = emf of cell.

    The 2nd route:
    Cell -> Is -> I2 -> R2 -> I2 -> Is -> Cell.
    This is another closed loop. So voltage across resistor = voltage across cell = emf of cell.

    Therefore, Vs = Vr1 = Vr2. Hope it helps -.-

    Since ralph-the-great has spoken, let me try to attempt to try describing some reactions. From one of the most common:

    Oxidation reactions:
    KMnO4 + H2SO4 or K2Cr2O7 + H2SO4
    KMnO4 is a very strong oxidation agent. The only mild oxidation reaction it does is via Alkene where it forms a Diol (in cold alkaline conditions). Usually for strong oxidation uses, heat under reflux as most organic compounds are volatile.
    Alcohols -> Ketones/Aldehydes, Alkenes -> cleavage, side chain oxidation of alkyl benzenes.
    K2Cr2O7 - useful in mild oxidation, the one we see is from alcohol -> aldehyde. Mild oxidation, heat with distillation.

    Hydrogenation/Reduction[OPPOSITE OF OXIDATION!] reactions:
    H2 with Ni catalyst, High T, High P. OR LiAlH4 then add H2O.
    NOTE: alkenes do not react with LiAlH4 -> H-atom in LiAlH4 exists as H-, therefore, since it's negative, it will NOT react with your alkene as the double bond is e-rich.
    Reactions: Alkenes -> Alkanes, Cyanides -> Amines, Carboxylic acids, Ketones & aldehydes -> alcohols.

    Dehydration reactions[Remove H2O]
    Reagents: Conc. H2SO4, heat.
    ALMOST anything that has H2O as a by-product can use conc H2SO4 cos it's a dehydrating agent.
    Alcohol -> Alkenes, Carboxylic acids&alcohols -> esters.

    Take note of HalogenoAlkanes reactions:
    Reagents are usually dissolved in ethanol as they're insoluble in water. There's one exception of NaOH[aq] for nucleophilic substitution of the halide.
    -> NaOH in alcohol will cause elimination. HOWEVER if there's no beta hydrogen present, substitution of the halide WILL take place.

    Understanding the kind of reactions can save you the memory work as ralph said =) You can also look into nucleophilic substitutions and other reactions. Understand why these reagents will cause certain reactions =)

    Okay boys and girls, time to mug chem =)

    P/S: FYI, IONIC EQM BOOKLET 2008 EDITION IS OUT. WITH EFFORTS FROM JIANTING. BEWARE THE OILY BOOKLET, BRING A PLASTIC FOLDER.
    PP/S: PLEASE STILL THANK HIM FOR THE EFFORT. OIL PRICES HAVE HIT 110 USD ALREADY.

    AHHH GG. Look at that mess. Chem summary for aliphatic organic chem is really disastrous... But upon slight edits....

    Hope you guys like it. IMO it's quite impossible to memorise like that -.- so ummm... Do individual summaries for each topic. Then start memorising from there.

    Do not forget other parts of your organic chem:
    Alkanes - Physical properties, petrol cracking and so on
    Alkenes - Cis-trans isomerism
    Arenes - Aromaticity of benzene ring
    Halogen Compounds - Optical Isomerism
    Hydroxy - phenol -> effects of e-donating/ e-withdrawing groups.
    Carboxylic acids -> e-donating/e-withdrawing groups on the stability of carboxylate ion?

    Work hard. organic chem is a huge topic.

    Those who want chem consultation can sms me? Find out from dingfang or whoever if you don't have my number. I'll try to organise a date. Thanks =)

    Oh ya. Ehhh.... I feel a STRONG need to clarify something. So far right, I have not designed a single birthday card! (Opps.) It has been Pei Zhi and Xin Ying all along!!! (The only 2 cards i did for the class are the teachers' day cards i think. hahaha) So erm, let's give credit where it's due!! Round of applause for PZ and XY!! Haha. so all those comments on the cards... ehhh... ya.. it's not me. hahaha. Thanks for the greetings anyway!
